The Bajaus makes up Sabah’s second largest population. They reside in Kota Kinabalu up to Kota Belud and Semporna. Originally they were nomadic, sea-faring people. Now, the Bajaus are known for their many skills such as farming rice paddy, rearing water buffaloes, making boats and riding horses. They are known as “Cowboy Horsemen” of Sabah.
The Bajaus often put on shows displaying their awesome skill in horse-riding during the annual ‘Tamu Besar’ Festival in Kota Belud.
